Ok. I bet you didn’t know I liked The Wrens. Hell, I’m beginning to wonder if you’ve even heard of them. It’s not as if they’re selling millions of albums or headlining blockbuster tours but they are a cool band that’s been around a while. I won’t pretend that I’ve been a fan of theirs forever, though. I picked up on them last year when they made an appearance on the KEXP Live Performance Podcast. I heard it once and was blown away. I listened again, and again, and again. I sought them out on the web. I learned from the podcast and their website that they’ve been around since the fall of the 1980s and, their last record (The Meadowlands) was released in 2003. I instantly ordered it on vinyl.
That brings us more or less up to today when I read on Pitchfork that they will be contributing an brand-new song to the Future Of Music Coalition‘s Net Neutrality compilation cd. Other Artists include Wilco (with a live version of Impossible Germany,) Aimee Mann, Bright Eyes, and They Might Be Giants.
This is great news. One can only hope that this will lead to a full release from The Wrens in the future.
